Have you got a job coming up that requires you to meet Green Star guidelines? The Green Star rating is an internationally recognised rating system, setting the standard for healthy, resilient, positive buildings and places. The rating of any building or community goes through a lengthy process of certification. And while the certification can only happen once the built is completed, your builder has a clear understanding of the rating they are going for. They will register their intent for certification with the Green Building Council Australia (GBCA) and will likely pass on requirements to you.
About the rating system
There are various areas of certification with a broad range of criteria being assessed. The scale ranges from 1 Star to 6 Star, 4 Star being considered best practice and 6 Star being considered world leadership.
How does this impact you?
If a builder aims for their project to rate highly on the Green Star scale, the build will have to address key issues in climate action, resource efficiency, and health & wellbeing.
The latter includes considerations such as materials and supplies used in the build, or noise levels to the future occupants for instance.
If you’re looking to work across hospitals, office buildings, public sector projects or retail, you’re likely to be working on buildings that aim for a 4+ Green Star Rating. For instance, the Adelaide Central Market Arcade redevelopment (office and retail) is among the projects registered to receive the certification.
